Relicta is a stunning first-person physics-based puzzle game that sees you stranded on an island with a bunch of odd devices and some anti-gravity gloves.
You are a scientist who is stranded on a moon base, and only left there with a few communications to other people and lots of bits of high powered machinery. Your gravity-defying gloves can help you solve puzzles within the moon base, allowing you to open up gates, move boxes and even activate portals that can pull the blocks to new areas. The entire moon base is high tech and full of beautiful imagery, while the outside has lush life and many vibrant plant life.
As you play through the game, you are able to solve increasingly challenging puzzles, manipulating gravity and moving blocks so that buttons can be pushed or new areas can be discovered. The game comes with more than just puzzles – through communicating with the people back on Earth, you can learn more about how you ended up on this base alone and how this technology was made. The story follows orbital politics, secrets about your daughter’s life, and a look into the fate of humanity.
I got the chance to play a small portion of Relicta at the Valencia Indie Summit where it won the award for the Best Valencian Game. Not only are the visuals striking and the puzzles challenging, but the game itself is captivating in the story that it tells.
Relicta is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can add it to your Steam Wishlist.
